Malaysia Sees Relaxation of Movement Control Order beginning 4th May, 2020

On Friday, 1st May 2020, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the Movement Control Order (MCO) would be eased to a conditional MCO on May 4 to allow most industries and economic activities to resume, with strict standard operating procedures in place.

Despite the relaxation, foreign individuals are still barred from entering Malaysia until further notice. Unfortunately, this includes holders of employment passes, expatriate passes, student passes, dependant passes, and Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) passes.

But exception are given to diplomats, permanent residents, expatriate pass holders working in essential services sectors and spouses of Malaysian citizens who may enter the country, either on long-term social passes and/or dependants social passes. These individuals are to observe a 14-day self-quarantine.
